Alumni Spotlight: Monet Somerville (’06)

Graduating with a degree in Psychology, Monet was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and represented the organization as a member of SGA. She was also a member of three honor societies Psi Chi Honor Society, Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society, and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. Monet received the NC Wesleyan Psychology Award in April of 2007 during the Spring graduation ceremony.

Monet, whose hobbies include watching British TV shows and relaxing by the lake, is pursuing a doctorate degree in Developmental Psychology. Her dissertation research is on how women experience intimacy development following an adolescent abortion. Monet is currently employed by the Children's Hospital at New Orleans teaching parents about development and supporting them through the challenges of parenthood.

When asked what she loved about being a Battling Bishop Monet stated “The lessons that I learned at NCWC prepared me for graduate school. Furthermore, the friendships that I gained are so important to me”. Monet Somerville went on to say that giving back to NC Wesleyan was important because “NCWC gave me so much that I want to make sure it keeps giving to future generations”.

Congratulations Harriet Whitehead '20!Chamber selects new Membership Director

The Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce has named, Harriet Whitehead as its new Membership Director. Harriet started her position on July 7, 2020.

Harriet is a lifelong native of Halifax County. She is a graduate of Halifax Community College with an associate degree in Applied Science in Paralegal Studies and recent graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

She is currently working on her Master’s in Business Administration at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Harriet’s background in business administration and a love for helping others, creating lasting memories and making a difference in the community are all added qualities that makes her perfect for this position.

Harriet states “I am excited to be a part of a great team at Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce and am looking forward to an exciting and rewarding chapter in my life”

David Farris, Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO states "Harriet came highly recommended by Dr. Gena Messer-Knode at North Carolina Wesleyan College. We are excited to have Harriet as part of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce team. Being from Halifax County, Harriet is very familiar with the greater Rocky Mount area and our businesses and manufacturing operations."

Currently Harriet resides in Halifax County with her husband Lorne Whitehead and enjoys spending quality time with her daughter Britney and son Lorne Joseph.
