Earlier today, Richard Allsbrook, Visiting Instructor of Criminal Justice, gathered the packages to be delivered to @ncpacks4patriots. #ThankAVeteran #WesleyanPride #NCWC #VeteransDay

[Faculty Feature]: Dr. Lee Templeton
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dr. Templeton is an Associate Professor of English in his 12th year teaching at NC Wesleyan. He was awarded the 2018-2019 Jefferson-Pilot Professorship. This award is the highest and most singular honor that can be bestowed upon a faculty member and is given in recognition of scholarship, teaching and community service. He received his B.A. in English from Florida Southern College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Some of the classes he teaches include: British Literature 1, Chaucer and His Contemporaries, The Medieval Foundations of Tolkien’s World, The Viking Age: Literature and Culture, The History of the English Language and Systems of Grammar. Dr. Templeton currently serves as the Program Coordinator for English and the Chair of the School of Humanities. He is currently editing a collection of essays on grief and gender in the Middle Ages titled “Knowing Sorrow: Grief, Gender, and Identity in the Middle Ages” and co-editing another collection of essays titled “New Directions in Medieval Mystical and Devotional Literature: Essays in Honor of Denise N. Baker.”

[Staff Spotlight]: John Thompson
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
John Thompson is in his 25th year as Head Coach for @ncw_mbb and loves the connection he has with all current and former players. He is a member of the @NABC1927 and represents the South Region on the NABC All-Star Game Committee. Coach Thompson has served in a variety of capacities with @usabasketball, including working with the U18 National Team and being a Coaches Academy Clinician. He has also served on the @ncaa Basketball Playing Rules Committee for a 4-year term. Thompson has been married to wife, Laura, for 27 years. His son Drew is a Wesleyan grad who currently works for BB&T and twin sons, Walker and Jackson, are juniors at Rocky Mount High School. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, listening to music and reading.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The NC Wesleyan College Football team swept all three of the @usa_south Conference Player of the Week awards on November 4 for the Bishops' 48-24 win over rival Methodist last Saturday. Catch them back at home on November 16 for Senior Day against Maryville. The game will be played on campus at the Vernon T. [Faculty Feature]: Dr. Daniel Henderson
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dr. Henderson earned his B.A. in Philosophy from Wheaton College (IL) in 1980, and is his own favorite example of someone who is unsure what they want to do after graduation. After graduation, he worked as a custodian for a year, drove a truck for three years, ran under contract with @nike as a world class distance runner for three years and worked with adults with intellectual disabilities for two years. Working on a master’s degree at Indiana University during all of this, he fell in love with exercise physiology, but ended up completing his Ph.D. in comparative physiology with a minor in neuroscience from the same university. Following graduation in 1995, he became a postdoctoral fellow at U.W. Madison School of Veterinary Medicine until 2000. In 2000, he took his first visiting teaching position at Centre College (Kentucky) until 2005 and from there taught in the Health and Exercise Science Department at Centenary College of Louisiana until 2011 when they phased out the department there. From there, he went on to teach in the Kinesiology and Health Science Department at Hendrix College in Arkansas until 2016, where they also phased out the department there. Dr. Henderson began teaching at North Carolina Wesleyan in 2016 and enjoys being part of the vibrant and thriving Exercise Science and Health Promotion Department.

On Sunday, September 1, #HurricaneDorian devastated the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm leaving many people without homes and daily necessities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a result, Dr. Patricia Brewer's Teacher Education students stepped up and launched the Student North Carolina Association of Educators’ Bahamas Hurricane Relief in partnership with @shawuniversity. They collected supplies and donations throughout the months of September and October and then transported these relief items to Shaw University on October 25. We're proud of the example that our students set in #helpingothers. 🤝
