Residence Halls
The University has eight traditional residence halls and 16 attractive townhomes. All rooms are air-conditioned, heated and have Internet capability through wired or wireless connections. Four of the traditional halls are three-story brick buildings, similar in size and design, which house approximately 120 students each. Rooms are furnished with sinks, two twin beds, two desks and chairs, two dressers and two wardrobes. Rooms are designed to be shared by two students. The four remaining traditional halls are two-story brick buildings that accommodate 40 upper-class students each in 100-square- foot, single-occupancy rooms.

The Villas at Wesleyan Townhome Community is located off of Bishop Road, just across from the NCWU Scalf (softball) Field. The Community includes 16 attractive townhomes. These offer increased privacy and modern furnishings in over 1,500 square feet that accommodate 5 students of the same sex.

Taylor Center & Everett Gymnasium
Everett Gymnasium and the adjoining Roger G. and Gaile D. Taylor Center house the Department of Athletics and classrooms. In 2004, the University completed a $2 million renovation that added the Taylor Center the Athletics. This renovation included the addition of an Athletics Hall of Fame, the Jean Brake Edge Gym and a fitness center. The main gymnasium is the home of the Don Scalf Court and with seating for up to 1,200 people, provides a great home court advantage for men’s basketball, women’s basketball and women’s volleyball. The gym proudly displays numerous banners earned by various Bishop athletic squads over the years. The auxiliary gym can be used for a variety of activities including basketball, volleyball and fitness classes. It is connected to a state-of-the-art fitness center complete with free weights and cardiovascular machines.

Competition and practice fields for varsity baseball, lacrosse, soccer, and softball are located on the edge of the campus adjacent to a large field house with facilities for outdoor sports and coaches’ offices. The football team plays at the Vernon T. Bradley, Jr. Stadium and has a practice field on campus. In addition, there are campus fields for intramurals, a beach volleyball court, bicycle racks, and activities to encourage physical activity for all students.

The University Chaplain has an office in the Chapel and is available to students, staff and faculty for consultation.

Hartness Student Center
What was originally a Power Plant building used to supply heat to the College, this structure was transformed in 1997 to The Rufus and Patsy Hartness Student Center. The Hartness is named in honor of the patriarchs of the Hartness Family. Not only was their scholarship fund used as the seed money for the project. Countless members of the Hartness family have given funds to refurbish and remodel the Hartness Center. The University is grateful to Dr. Hartness and all of the Hartness family members that have made the Student Center the place it is today.

The Student Center was extensively renovated in 2019 with the help from Dr. John Hartness and his family. It offers a recreation area/game room with multiple flat-screen TV’s, an esports gaming space and other recreational attractions, a lounge for students, and the WOW Café. Offices for the Student Government Association, student publications, Campus Activities Board, and the Student Entertainment and Activities Team (SEAT) are also located there.

Gateway Technology Center
The Gateway Technology Center – Thomas A. Betts, Jr. Education Building opened in May 2006 near the entrance to the campus. The Bellemonte House
Our historic Bellemonte House, constructed about 1812, is an example of Federal architecture. It was moved to the Rocky Mount campus from adjacent property in 1988 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Marketing & Communications offices are located on the 2nd floor.

The Dunn Center
A focal point for the arts at North Carolina Wesleyan University is the 48,060-square-foot Charles K. Dunn, Jr. and Ineze D. Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. This beautiful Neo-Georgian-style building houses the 1,200-seat Minges Auditorium, with a full working stage with fly loft and fully operational control booth. It also includes the 132-seat Powers Recital Hall, the Carlton Board Room, the spacious Garner Lobby, an acting classroom, and two art galleries. The Mims Gallery features an exhibit schedule of regional and international contemporary art. The Gravely Gallery features art of the extended Rocky Mount community. In addition to providing a showcase for performing artists, symphonies, dance groups, and theatrical companies, The Dunn Center serves as a meeting facility, offering space for conferences, shareholder and employee meetings, retreats, wedding receptions, and banquets.

Vernon T. Bradley, Jr. Stadium
The Stadium consists of a turf field, lighting, additional parking, fencing, permanent seating, scoreboards and a press box. The proposed new fieldhouse will contain an Athletic Training Facility, weight room, classrooms, meeting space and offices. This is a multi-purpose field that allows various athletic events including football, soccer and lacrosse.

Indoor Sports & Education Facility (ISEF)
This facility serves the campus community for primarily indoor tennis events and is considered one of the most technologically advanced air dome structures in the world. With two squash courts and four indoor tennis courts, Wesleyan’s facility is unlike any in the area. The software-driven, climate-controlled “smart” building automatically adjusts to changing weather conditions. The shell of the structure is evenly covered with a square woven cable harness system that allows for superior strength and corner protection creating unmatched structural durability.

The building includes our Exercise Science and Health Promotion area with laboratory and office space, as well as new equipment to offer state-of-the-art learning to Wesleyan students. Amenities are PC computers, teaching stations, wall touch whiteboards and more.

Shaw Learning Center
The approximately 5,000-square-foot Shaw Learning Center is located behind the Welcome Center in the middle of campus and contains four classrooms and four offices. The facility provides students with unique learning opportunities, scientific initiatives and innovative ideas towards the care of felines. A unique feature of the facility is the cat lounge centrally located as guests enter the building.

The cat lounge houses approximately six to eight rescue or endowed cats from owners who have passed away. In addition to offering a serene space for these cats to live, there is also a space for students to study and socialize. Multiple research studies have shown that cats help reduce anxiety, stress and depression.

Shaw Environmental Center
A new hands-on learning classroom for environmental science, ecology, the biology of plants and other science labs.

Scalf Field (Soccer)
The Scalf Field is home to our Battling Bishop soccer squads. The game field measures 120 x 80 yards and has a natural hybrid Bermuda Tifton grass surface which allows for year round play and gives the field a “golf course” appearance. The dimensions of the field, along with the top quality surface, allow for ideal playing conditions and enjoyment of the game. Bradley Fieldhouse
The fieldhouse is located on the south end of campus and houses team locker rooms.

Bauer Field (Baseball)
NC Wesleyan’s baseball diamond was named “Bauer Field” in the fall of 1988 after Dr. Raymond E. Bauer, North Carolina Wesleyan’s first baseball coach. Dr. Bauer began laying out the field in 1961. With some help from local contractors and players, Dr. Bauer had the field ready for its first game in the spring of 1962. In 2005, the Bishops retired Bauer’s #18 jersey.

Bauer field is considered one of the finest small college facilities in the nation. Features include a three-foot high brick wall with a 40-foot net behind home plate for a backstop, as well as enclosed bullpen areas. Both pens include a four-foot elevated bench that overlooks the field, which gives the facility a Fenway Park feel. The clubhouse offers Bishop players a locker room, shower, and lounge area, as well as a detailed history of NCWU’s storied program.

Edge Field (Softball)
Edge Field was named in honor of Jean Edge, the first head softball and women’s basketball coach in NC Wesleyan history. The field is adjacent to Bauer Baseball Field and measures 190 feet down the lines and 220 feet to center. Edge Field offers Bishop softball players a chance to compete on high-quality infield surface and Bermuda Tifton grass outfield. The field also features covered dugouts and a batting cage down the first base line. The facility is within brief walking distance of the fieldhouse, which also houses our softball locker room.
