On April 19, 2020, The Department of Education provided over $6 billion in emergency grant funding for colleges to distribute to students affected by the coronavirus. The funding is available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

North Carolina Wesleyan University received funds under the CARES Act to provide emergency grants to students for COVID-19 related expenses. The grants are awarded based on certain eligibility criteria under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA), from demonstrated need and will provide funds for students to use towards eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance, including food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and childcare. The funding is being distributed as emergency grants to students whose lives and education have been affected by the disruption of campus operations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If eligible to receive the federal CARES Act Emergency Grant Funds, the steps below must be followed before processing payment. These steps include the optional use of direct deposit* to receive the funds no later than Wednesday, May 13 at 11:59 pm. If you do not complete by the deadline or cannot provide the financial information for the optional direct deposit method, a paper check will be mailed to the address on record at North Carolina Wesleyan University. This method can take between 1-2 weeks.
