Alumni Spotlight: Elizabeth Murchison ('18)

Over the years, many alumni have shared stories that have a common theme. When a member of the Bishop family struggles or goes through a challenging chapter, Wesleyan rallies around their own. This story sheds light on one of our strongest Bishops, Elizabeth Murchison. Elizabeth graduated this past April, receiving her degree in Accounting.

Her spectacular story begins years earlier when Elizabeth was a freshman at our Triangle Campus. She had just started on her journey to get her college degree when the doctors had some bad news. She was diagnosed with two types of breast cancer. When faced with the devastating news, like a true fighter, Elizabeth didn't drop her classes. She fought cancer the only way a Battling Bishop could, with a fierce determination that she would beat this horrible disease. Between chemo and radiation treatments she put forth her best effort and regularly made the Dean’s list for her academic accomplishments. And like a true victor on April 28th, 2018, she walked across the stage at graduation and accepted her college degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College.

One of Elizabeth's graduation shout outs read as follows: "In Honor of my rock, Jesus! You stayed cheering me on and telling me I could do it. Thank You for grace, mercy, pain, suffering, heartache, the trials and tribulations because without these things I would not have this JOY. Thank You for Your promises and teaching me forgiveness, to my past - NO regrets, lessons learned, and to my future-I am COMING."

Elizabeth, thank you for being a true example for the Bishop family. Your determination, grit, and spirit will always inspire your fellow Bishops. Congratulations on receiving your degree and overcoming your battles.
