For the next several weeks our Alumni Spotlights will feature members of the Class of 1969, the Class of 1994 and the 1994 Final Four Women's Soccer Team in honor of their 50th and 25th reunions. These groups will be honored during Homecoming October 12.

Alumni Spotlight: Alyson Beicker '97

"My teammates were and still are some of my best friends. I keep in touch with all of them through social media, text, and phone calls. I just went to visit my college roommate in April of this year. I loved my small classes and my advisor was awesome. When we had a teammate pass away a few years ago, we all rallied together to create an endowed scholarship in her memory. Most of the team showed up at school, along with her family, to present the scholarship. Wesleyan is a tight knit community and everyone knows your name. That was really special to me."

You can tell through her comments the reason why Alyson Beicker (Patrick) was a member of a very special soccer team. An NCAA All America in 1996, Academic All-American in 1995-1996, and Rookie of the Year in 1993, Alyson graduated with departmental honors in 1997. Earning her degree in Business Administration, she was 1st Team All-Conference for three years, All Region two years, and of course a member of the NCAA Final Four team in 1994!

Alyson has worked in the oil and gas (energy) industry as a CFO since graduation. She received her MBA in 2006 and is currently consulting as a CFO for an energy company. Alyson completed Executive Coaching with The Flippen Group and has been recognized as a leader in her industry. She has also sat on the Board of Directors for both energy companies and non-profits.

Alyson has a 16- and 18-year old who are both great athletes. Caroline (18) plays soccer and runs marathons. Davis (16) plays varsity football for a 6A high school as a wide receiver and runs track. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is a passion of Alyson's. She has raised over $300,000 for JDRF, a desire that was sparked when her 18-year old daughter, Caroline, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 8 months old. Alyson is heavily involved in her church, Harvest United Methodist Church in Missouri City.

Congratulations Alyson Beicker and the 1994 Final Four Women's Soccer Team!! #NCWCAlumni #BishopFamily #Bishoppride

Alumni Spotlight: Katherine Gebb Knecht '69

Fifty years ago Katherine "Kathy" Gebb Knecht graduated from NC Wesleyan with a degree in Religion. She played volleyball and was active in the Interfaith Council. Per Kathy "Wesleyan provided a great opportunity for a quality education within a community where you could know others. Coming to Wesleyan from a high school graduating class of 765 was a treat. There was so much to be involved in and so many folks from different places. A very exciting adventure."

Fifty years later Kathy is now retired after 35 years with the Forsyth County Department of Social Services and Forsyth County Human Resources as Interim Director of DSS. She is very active in her church, Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, participating in the quilting ministry, serving as a Stephen Ministries leader and in leadership roles in Women of the ELCA. She is proud of serving for 12 years on the Board of Lutheran Family Services, now part of Lutheran Services Carolinas. Kathy says "my time on the board was exciting and matched well with my job responsibilities of Program Manager for Family and Children's Services at DSS."

Kathy is married to Class of '68 alum, Norman Knecht, who retired from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools after 31 years. Kathy and Norman just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Their church sponsored a refugee family (5 children) 16 years ago and the Knechts are their adopted grandparents...a very rewarding experience for Kathy and Norman.

Congratulations on 50 years of marriage and success! #NCWCalumni #BishopFamily #Bishoppride

My husband and I enjoyed Kathy and Norman’s company on a trip to Italy about 10 years ago. It was all quite by accident. We enjoyed reuniting with them and talking about Wesleyan!
