Admissions and Advising Coordinator – New Bern APS

North Carolina Wesleyan University is a four-year, Liberal Arts University located in Rocky Mount, NC. We are inviting applications for a full-time Admissions and Advising Coordinator for our Adult & Professional Studies Department. The position will be located in New Bern, NC.

Summary:  Recruit and counsel incoming New Bern adult students regarding the admissions process; assist in the development of institutional application and information materials; full advisement of prospective and current students; have strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interface well with public; assist with recruitment and admission efforts as assigned by the Administration.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Admissions:

  • Respond to inquiries (email, telephone, referrals, letters, and personal contact) within 24 hours. Follow up with inquiries to help guide them through the application process.
  • Manage system processes and admissions communication processes.
  • Counsel students on undergraduate admissions procedures, collect and track all application paperwork.
  • Ensure official documentation sent to the Registrar’s office is complete and free of errors.
  • Apply transfer credit guidelines in review and assessment of prospective students.
  • Manage applicant files, make admission decisions, register students and provide orientation.
  • Conduct on and off-campus interviews with prospective students.
  • Report weekly inquiries, applicants and new students to Director.
  • Promotes APS at community colleges, churches, civic organizations and businesses.
  • Communicate a positive image of APS to the community.
  • Develop, implement and participate in recruiting/networking events in the local and surrounding communities.

Advising:

  • Advise and counsel students on academic policies and processes, including, major and minor requirements, degree completion, academic planning, etc.
  • Process registrations, student drops, financial aid paperwork, etc.
  • Audit files to ensure accurate tracking of credits completed.
  • Follow up with advisees on first week drops, complete drop forms, and submit to Director.
  • Relationship building with students through telephone, email, and face-to-face communication.

Other:

  • Assist administration with various admissions and advising projects, as assigned.
  • Participate in team training, meetings, etc.
  • Travel in local/neighboring communities and to NCWU locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Prior experience in a non-traditional higher education environment is highly desirable.
  • Prior sales experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Computer literacy with experience using Jenzabar is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for education fairs.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an attention for details.
  • Reliable personal vehicle that can be used for work travel (mileage reimbursement provided).

Summary:  Recruit and counsel incoming adult students regarding the admissions process; assist in the development of institutional application and information materials; coordinate and execute recruiting activities in a specific geographic region; have strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interface well with the public; assist with recruitment and admission efforts as assigned by the Administration. Extensive local travel is required.

Assistant Football Coach

Teacher Education Administrative Assistant, Part-time

North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Teacher Education program seeks a reliable service-oriented individual to serve as a part-time administrative assistant. The Administrative Assistant will provide administrative support to the Teacher Education Director and Faculty, including college correspondence, gathering and assisting with required State and Federal reports, coordinating Teacher Education Council meetings, photocopying, processing both in-coming and out-going mail, providing information to prospective students, current students, student organizations, faculty, and others regarding the Teacher Education Program. The position will also prepare purchase orders, check requisitions and travel reimbursement forms for program needs in addition to maintaining snail-mail and email lists, program files, and program databases. Additional responsibilities include: preparing handbooks, supporting the field placement process, maintaining various files, and undertaking other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Teacher Education.

This position will work at a centralized location in the Teacher Education office assisting students and faculty with a variety of education-related items.  Most important, the Administrative Assistant will develop good relationships with current and potential students in the Teacher Education program by being responsible to their academic needs as they relate to the program. The Teacher Education Administrative Assistant works up to 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from early August to mid-May.

Candidates for this position should have three years of relevant experience in an office environment and some college-level course work; Demonstrated computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications.  Strong customer service, orientation, and interpersonal skills to build relationships and work effectively with college students and faculty are also a necessity; Good organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;  The ability to climb stairs and handle some light lifting;  Familiarity with the K-12 public school system is desirable.
