Music Scholarships

North Carolina Wesleyan Singers Scholarship

The North Carolina Wesleyan Singers Scholarship was established in 2008 to provide scholarship funds and operating expenses for the choral program here at NCWC. The scholarship is open, by audition, to full-time students who enroll as freshmen in the Wesleyan Singers with the potential to be renewed each year. The amount of the scholarship is $4,000 per year. This fund also supports the operating expenses of our choral music program.

*Julia Weskett Powers Endowed Music Scholarship Fund

Established in 1990 by James B. Powers to honor his wife in recognition of her love of music and service to education and the community, this scholarship is awarded to a student who is active in the music program at the College.

*Betsey M. Boyd Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2007 by Judith K. Boyd ’93, in memory of her mother. Preference for this scholarship is given to students involved in the Wesleyan Singers, Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble, or other College sponsored music program. The student must demonstrate academic achievement and good personal character.

*The Edna Gladden Hartness Music Fund

The Edna Gladden Hartness Music Fund was established by a grant from the Community Foundation of Greenville (SC). This fund was established to upgrade the College music library and to provide funds for an accompanist, music, and other supplies for the college jazz band and instrumental program.

*The Dr. William Sasser Scholarship Fund

Established in honor of the College’s first choral director, this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding choral student each year.

*The Dr. George Rufus Ratchford Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Established in memory of Dr. George Rufus Ratchford, this scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding instrumental music student.
