Get Lowe’s Bishops
The “Get Lowe’s Bishops” or “Get Lowe” activity is a daylong competition between the officially recognized Student Organizations, Athletic Teams, and Department at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Groups will have 9 hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) to find as many of the “Lowe’s Bishops” as they can. Lowe’s Bishops are actual chess bishop pieces. They will be hidden in various places in all academic buildings, Hartness Center, Library, Hardee Student Union, Taylor Center, the Fieldhouse, and Dunn Center. They will not be in any resident halls, classrooms, utility closets, or Facilities Buildings. Each piece will be distinctly mark to prevent cheating and also given a point value. The bishops must be turned into the Student Activities Office. Only the Student Activities Staff are allowed to officially receive Bishops for the competition. Students, Faculty, or Staff may turn in bishops any time between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Upon collection the bishop or bishops will be inspected (to ensure that the piece is an official Get Lowe piece) and tallied for the organization. Groups must have a representative in the Student Activities Office by 5:00 PM or their bishops will not count towards their overall total. The organization, team, or department which tallies the most points will win competition and receive $300 for their group. They will also receive the Thomas G. Lowe Bishop Trophy.
