New Student Orientation is a two part event that orients new students to campus and welcomes them into the Bishop family!

Part One: Bishop Business Day
This is a day during the summer that students come to campus to take care of necessary business. Please look at the dates below and be sure to register* for your Bishop Business Day once you have submitted your enrollment deposit. More information will be sent to you after registration.

Part Two: New Student Welcome
This is an exciting weekend full of activities that begin when you arrive to move in.

Part 1: Bishop Business Days

  • Meet with Financial Aid
  • Chat with the Business Office
  • Learn How to Navigate the Student Portal
  • Receive Your Student I.D.
  • Meet Your Advisor & Register for Classes

New Student Move-in | Residence Halls

12:00 – 1:30 p.m.
Lunch | Dining Hall

Parents and guests can purchase lunch in the dining hall. Students should use their meal plan which is linked to the student ID card.

12:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Pick-up books for students with last names starting A-O | Bookstore, Hardee’s Building

1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Refreshment Social | Hartness Center

Students and parents are invited to attend a floating send-off dessert social to celebrate the beginning of a new journey as a member of the Bishop family!

3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Parent & Family Departure

Parents and families must depart by 4:00 p.m.

First Year Mentors are a team of dedicated and constructive student leaders that are passionate about NC Wesleyan College and believe in every student’s success. From the beginning at New Student Welcome and throughout the fall semester, First Year Mentors help new students connect with the Wesleyan community. They serve as mentors and role models to first year students, and attend an assigned COL 195 course section to be accessible and provide insight as a mentor.

Q: Am I required to attend Bishop Business Day?

A:  Yes, all new students must register and attend a Bishop Business Day.


Q: How many people am I allowed to bring to Bishop Business Day?

A: We ask that you only bring 3-4 guests with you to Bishop Business Day.


Q: What should I wear to Bishop Business Day?

A: Please dress comfortably and be prepared to walk around campus.


Q: Do I need to register for New Student Welcome?

A: No, New Student Welcome begins with campus move-in and students do not need to register.


Q: Do parents and families attend New Student Welcome?

A: New Student Welcome is part two of New Student Orientation that kicks off with campus move-in. Parents and families are encouraged to attend the Refreshment Social on that Friday celebrating the beginning of college for their student. Parents and families are requested to depart immediately following the social. Please see the full schedule for details.


Q:  Do I need to register for classes?

A: Students are registered for classes by their academic advisor prior to the Bishop Business Day.  You will receive your course schedule at Bishop Business Day and have the opportunity to meet with your advisor about your course schedule.


Q:  How do I access my college email account?

A: The Office of Admissions will send you information about accessing your college email account to your personal email account.


Q: Do I have to take any placement exams?

A: Some students will need to take a math placement exam.  If you do, you will be contacted prior to your registered Bishop Business Day, and will have the opportunity to take the exam during Bishop Business Day.


Q:  When do I get my textbooks?

A:  All students will pick up their textbooks from the bookstore during New Student Welcome in August.


Q:  When will I find out who my roommate is?

A: Students will be notified the third week of July about roommate and housing information.


Q:  I am living on campus.  What should I bring for my Residence Hall room when I move-in?

A:  A complete list of what to bring can be found here.


Q: I am a student with a disability.  How do I get accommodations at NC Wesleyan?

A: Students needing any form of accommodations based on an academic, mental, or physical disability must register with the Office of Disability Services. Students register by completing a Self-Identification and Impact Statement and Consent for Release of Confidential Information, which can be found on the NC Wesleyan website under Health Services. Additionally each student must provide current and comprehensive documentation to the Office of CDS of a temporary or permanent disability that requires accommodation. Specific documentation guidelines categorized by disability are outlined in the Disability Services Handbook also located on the website. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 plan, or Disability Accommodations at a previous institution are not considered sufficient documentation, but it can be submitted as supporting information in addition to a comprehensive assessment.
