Scholarship and Award Programs


Since its inception in 1956, North Carolina is proud of its heritage in supporting students in their quest for success in higher education.  This legacy of assistance still continues today.

Meritorious Scholarships:

(Inclusive of all federal, state and institutional aid)

1240/1170 SAT/26 ACT**

Must maintain a GPA of 3.2

Scholarship not guaranteed; selection of recipients will be determined by interview performance (limited amount available)

Completion of FAFSA required

Trustee Scholarship Full Tuition & Books*

(Inclusive of NC Need-Based Scholarship, if eligible, and all institutional aid)

3.75 Weighted GPA

1200/1130 SAT/25 ACT**

Must maintain GPA of 2.95

Scholarship not guaranteed; selection of recipients will be determined by interview performance (limited amount available)

Completion of FAFSA required.

President’s Award $18,000 3.30 Weighted GPA

1080/1000 SAT/21 ACT**

Must maintain GPA of 2.75

Dean’s Award $15,000 3.00 Weighted GPA

980/900 SAT/19 ACT**

Must maintain GPA of 2.6

Wesleyan Award $12,500 2.5 Weighted GPA

900 (new) / 820 (old) SAT/17 ACT**

*New SAT scores are reported as of March 2016. Old score represents SAT score prior to March 2016


Meritorious Levels of Scholarships for Transfer Students:

Recipients must maintain GPA of 2.5 in college coursework, maintain Satisfactory Academic  Progress and be enrolled
full-time in the Traditional Program.

Awards Requirements
Transfer Award Gold $13,500 3.5+ GPA
Transfer Award Blue $10,500 3.0- 3.4 GPA
Transfer Award White $7,500 2.5- 2.9 GPA

Special Distinction and Participation Awards:

Awards Requirements
Legacy Resident: $22,000 Commuter: $18,000 Students with GPA 3.0+, whose parents or grandparents graduated from NCWC
Honors Award $1,000 Member of Roger & Gaile D. Taylor Honors Program (Application-based)
International Award $5,500 New Students (On-Campus Only)
United Methodist Award $2,000 Application for UMC Scholarship / Letter from pastor confirming active membership in United Methodist Church affiliated with the NC Conference of United Methodist Church.
Ministerial Award 50% reduction for tuition, room & board, books Dependent of full-time, licensed ordained ministers of a United Methodist Church in the NC Conference.  Also extends to all denominations residing in Nash, Edgecombe, Franklin, Halifax, Johnston, Wake, Warren and Wilson. (Replaces all other institutional funds.)
Fine Arts Award $1,000 Band/Wesleyan Singers/Wesleyan Players
Eagle Scouts/Girl Scouts $1,000 Students who are an Eagle Scout or Girl Scout Gold Award Recipient
Shelton Leadership Challenge $1,000 Students who participate in the Shelton Leadership Challenge
Phi Theta Kappa $1,000 Must be a transfer student with an Associates Degree
Cheer & Dance Varies Students who participate on the Cheer or Dance team
ROTC Varies GPA 2.5; SAT 290+; ACT 19+; must meet physical standards and agree to serve in the Army, Army Reserve or Army National Gaurd

Federal Pell Grant Up to $5,920 Need-based; FAFSA completion required
SEOG Grant Up to $4,000 Need-based for high need; FAFSA completion required (Preference to non-NC residents)
NC Need-Based Scholarship Varies NC resident for at least two years; FAFSA completion required
Federal Work-Study Up to $1,800 Need-based; FAFSA completion required
Direct Student Loan $5,500-$12,500 Based on grade level; FAFSA completion required
Federal Perkins Loan Varies Sophomore status or above; high need; FAFSA completion required
