The Office of Counseling & Accessibility Services is designed to complement the University’s academic mission by assisting students with their personal and educational development through individual and group counseling, consultation, accessibility services, educational outreach, and referral, in order to maximize students’ capacity for continued emotional growth and academic success.
The goal of Counseling is to provide students with a safe, confidential, and supportive environment to discuss life concerns, challenges, and opportunities. Our professional mental health counselors assists students each year seeking help with transitioning to University, coping with University life, fear of failure, feelings of loneliness, anxiety, depression, academic concerns and many other areas. The counseling process is about problem solving, expansion of awareness and coping skills, and personal growth. One does not need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling services. To schedule a Counseling appointment, go to the University website, click on Campus Life. From the dropdown menu select Student Resources. Click on Health Services then scroll down to Counselling & Accessibility Services and click on the Request Counseling Appointment. For after-hours counseling “emergencies,” please contact Security at 252-977-7374, or a Residence Life Staff Member on-duty. In the event of a true medical emergency, dial 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.
The purpose of Accessibility Services is to provide equal access opportunities, including the establishment and coordination of academic accommodations, auxiliary aids, and programs to qualified students in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
