Cleveland Ray “Butch” Harvey

Cleveland Ray “Butch” Harvey was born in Sarasota, Florida June 16, 1947. He attended North Carolina Wesleyan University from 1965 to 1967. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in August 1967, attending boot camp in Parris Island, SC. In January 1968, he attended Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA followed by the Basic School in March 1968.

First Lieutenant Harvey started his Vietnam tour July 13, 1970. He served as an Infantry Officer assigned to Company B, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division Third Marine Amphibious Force. He was killed-in-action in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam on November 18, 1970.

He earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart as well as the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He is buried in Section 7 of Arlington National Cemetery.
